Word Sprout
Grow your English words like little sprouts!
How to use
Hi! I'm Sprout
Plant English words in pots. The more you study, the more they grow — all the way to flowers!
Add a word list
Snap your word list or pick a photo — the words are read for you. Fix any wrong letters, then save. You can also type words yourself.
Word lists by age
Don't have a list? Tap "By age" and pick the learner's age. Add 20 words at a time to your garden.
Look at cards
Tap a card to flip it and see the meaning. Swipe to move on. Hear American or British sounds. "I know it" makes a seed sprout.
Auto play & shuffle
Auto play (▶ at the top of the cards) reads word → meaning → word, card after card, like a song. It keeps playing with the screen off, so you can listen on the go. Tap again to stop. Shuffle mixes up the card order. It is orange when it is on.
Grow them with games
Review with Grow, Pairs, Write it and Dictation. Right answers make pots grow. A water drop means a word is ready to review. Dictation reads a word aloud — write what you hear, like a spelling test at school.
Study together
Words you miss gather in Tricky words — for each list and for all lists. All my lists shows every list at once.
My study
Open More → My study to see your study: days in a row, words right today, right on the first try, the last 7 days, how your pots have grown and each list. The streak and goal chips open it too.
Flower card missions
Every mission you finish gives you a cute flower card — collect all 99! Harder missions give rarer cards. Limited season cards appear only at Halloween, Christmas and other times each year. Plant your cards in My flower bed and tap a flower to see its tricks — rarer flowers know more!
Photos that read well
- Printed word lists work best. Neat handwriting is OK too.
- An English word and its meaning on each line. Numbers and two-column tables are fine.
- Use bright light, keep the paper straight and fill the screen. Avoid shadows and glare.
- Korean meanings are read too. Meanings in other languages are not — check each word on the next screen.
- Hard to read: long sentences (textbook pages, picture books), blurry or tilted photos, faint pencil.
- Photos and screenshots (JPG, PNG…) work. PDF files don't.
- On the web, reading is less accurate than in the app. For handwriting, use the app.
- The photo is read only on this device and is never sent anywhere.
For parents
Word Sprout is free. Ads are general ads, not tailored to your child, and the play refill ad only appears after the day's free games are used up and your child taps it. Word lists and photos stay on this device.
